The County Council of Jämtland is a democratically run organization. This means that the inhabitants of the county choose the parties and politicians that make up the council every four years in a county election.
The council has 55 members, coming from Ankarvattnet in the north and Lillhärdal in the south, and these members set the council´s targets and prioritize spending.
The county of Jämtland is large and sparsely populated. This places special demands on the county´s operations as healthcare should be available and easily accessible throughout the county.
To reduce the impact of the large distances, we have the most pro-active healthcare advisory service in the country and an extensive ambulance operation including a helicopter that covers the miles in an impressive fashion.
Jämtland County Council consists of one hospital situated in Östersund, the only town in the county. Dispersed across the county we have 28 healthcare centres, 20 dental clinics, three schools and a cultural centre.
